About Susan Ruddy Photography!

If someone told me when I was a young girl that I would become a professional photographer I wouldn’t have believed them. My true love of photography developed after becoming a mother. While at home with my three children, I tried to capture each developmental milestone of my children on film. It’s not until you become a mother that you realize how fast children grow and change. So when I say I constantly had a camera in hand, I mean it! It was during that time that I found my true passion for photography. Although friends and family would comment on the quality of my photos and often said I should consider making it a career, it wasn’t until my two daughters and son were in school that I started working part-time at a portrait studio. I loved everything about it—from capturing the smile of new babies to the love in each other’s eyes of the newly engaged couple. Soon after that I began taking college courses in the Boston area and years later started my own photography business.  

For me, photography is about capturing the essence of the person being photographed. Whether it is a wedding, portrait session or party, hearing someone say “you captured me” means it was a job well done. That is what I strive for. Life moves so fast, before we know it our family is grown, and the only thing left to remind us of the good times shared with loved ones are the photographs.

Many people ask me if I get stressed when photographing a wedding. How can someone be stressed when they love what they do? Meeting new people and being able to capture their love in photos continue to inspire me year after year. My style is simple, with my goal being that I want my subject matter to forget that I am even there. I shoot mostly candid shots and try to catch on film your wedding day as it unfolds. I will pose and set up a situation but more often than not, just let you be you. I love to be creative and use different angles as well as a variety of focal points and lighting techniques.
